Supporting artists, strengthening communities
Nov 30, 2021
When the Vera List Center for Art and Politics was founded in 1992, not many people took artists seriously as agents of political or social change. Today, the essential role of artists in a healthy democracy is better understood—perhaps more than ever—but there are still too few resources dedicated to their work.
That is why we have expanded the scope and scale of our core programs so that we can help more artists get the resources, support, and recognition they need to make a difference in their communities. We are particularly committed to supporting artists around the world who:
- struggle to find support because of the experimental, political, and/or research-intensive nature of their work;
- advance equity, inclusion, and social justice through their work, especially in a local context; and
- are members of underrepresented communities in the art world.
In this time of continued challenges, we are especially proud to champion artists whose work makes the world not only more joyous, but more just. We could not do this without our incredible community of collaborators, partner organizations, audience members, and donors. As we approach the end of the year, we hope you will make a gift of $1,000, $500, $250, or any amount that is personally significant to you in order to support our continued commitment to visionary artists. Thank you in advance for considering a gift to support our vital work. We wish you and your loved ones a safe and restful holiday season.
