The Vera List Center for Art and Politics stands in solidarity with part-time faculty and student workers at The New School. Our part-time faculty colleagues comprise 87% of the university’s teaching staff and are seeking a fair contract. We support their strike.
We are proud to be a part of a community that holds fast to its values and speaks out when those values are not upheld. Labor unions and collective bargaining have been and remain an integral lever for holding institutions accountable for just and equitable conditions and pushing for progressive values. The New School was founded as an institution that creates space for dialogue, dissent, protest, and—ultimately—progress. We hope for, and will do our share to support, an equitable resolution to the bargaining process, which will help the university become a better version of itself.
