Forces of Art: Perspectives from a Changing World
Nov 26, 2020
9:00–11:00am ET
How can we speak of, evaluate, and teach the political and social impact of culture? Livestreamed from Amsterdam (where Thanksgiving is not observed), this book launch marks the culmination of an expansive research initiative by Prince Claus Fund, Hivos, and the European Cultural Foundation. Entitled Forces of Art: Perspectives from a Changing World and published by Valiz, the book compiles the investigations of fifteen research teams that apply distinct methodologies to examine the ways in which art practices can bring together communities, and create spaces for collaborative explorations of new societal paradigms.
Moderated by Aldith Hunkar, the program includes a keynote by artist Heba Amin; the performance The Accelerator of the Imagination by artist Pierre-Christophe Gam; a panel discussion; and an exchange with editorial team members Jordi Baltà Portolés, Nora N. Khan, and Serubiri Moses, led by Vera List Center Director Carin Kuoni, the book’s editor-in-chief.
Forces of Art is organized by Prince Claus Fund, Hivos, and the European Cultural Foundation and livestreamed by the Vera List Center for Art and Politics.
This event will be livestreamed on the VLC website and the Forces of Art website.
