Inside the Culture of Resistance is a series of conversations that explores the vexing problems confronting artists who create art that challenges the status quo and celebrates a spirit of resistance and aim to bring it to as large an audience as possible. The conversations focus on how the artists develop their work, how they connect with their audience, the artist’s history and relationship to their art form, and questions of subject matter, aesthetics, and technique.

Connie Julian, National Coordinator of Artists Network, interviews Danny Hoch actor, director, playwright, and performing artist. A key founder of New York’s culture of resistance, Hoch’s hip-hop theatre festival is produced by PS1 and Nuyorican Poets Cafe. He has numerous television and movie credits to his name, and is a Vera List Fellow. His writings on hip-hop, race, and class have appeared in The Village Voice, The New York Times, Harper’s, The Nation, American Theatre, and various books: Out Of Character, Extreme Exposure, Creating Your Own Monologue and Total Chaos.
